Joining Film Unit as a volunteer
Remember that almost anyone can see the films we show for only £2.50. However, if you give us the smallest amount of your time, you can see any - or all, if you want - of our films for free.
Ushers
The easiest way to get involved, ushers are the lovely people who tear tickets on the way in. However, as casual helpers they aren't full Film Unit staff, so only get to see films they're working for free. (More)
Fire Officers
Although only slightly more work than ushering, making sure the auditorium complies with safety regulations is the first level of full Film Unit staffing. As such Fire Officers can see any or all of our films for free. (More)
House Managers
Responsible for ensuring the show goes off without a hitch, House Managers need to be able to handle pressure. However, in exchange for their cool natures, they get the usual benefits of being full Film Unit staff. (More)
Projectionists
As a 35mm cinema, we don't just load a DVD and press play. We receive proper film, stick it all together while checking it for damage, lace it into our projector and then press play. Projectionists need to be clearly committed to Film Unit, but as above, receive all the perks. (More)
Committee
Keep your eyes open for a General Meeting Election. These will be announced before films, around the Union, in our programmes and in What's On. The Junior Committee is elected in an Autumn term OGM and the Senior Committee is elected in the Summer term AGM. However, posts are not always filled, so we may hold an EGM to recruit more people. If you can see a vacant post that you'd like to fill, get in touch.
